WaterWide Celebrates International Day of the Girl 2023: “Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being”

WaterWide, a steadfast non-profit organization with its roots deeply embedded in Nigeria, proudly joins the global community in commemorating International Day of the Girl 2023. This year’s resonant theme, “Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being,” mirrors our unwavering commitment to enhancing access to clean water and sanitation (WASH) in rural Nigeria, with a special focus on empowering girls.

The centrality of clean water, sanitation, and hygiene in the lives of girls cannot be overstated. Sadly, in far too many communities across Nigeria, girls continue to grapple with limited access to these fundamental rights, which profoundly affects their development, education, and overall well-being.

WaterWide’s mission encompasses a multifaceted approach. We are proactive advocates for policy changes that dismantle the barriers preventing access to WASH services in rural areas, particularly those that disproportionately affect girls. Through community education and engagement, we empower local stakeholders and community members with the knowledge and tools necessary to promote the best WASH practices.

International Day of the Girl 2023 serves as a poignant reminder of the urgency of investing in girls’ rights. We passionately endorse this year’s theme as it encapsulates the very essence of our mission. We urge all stakeholders, governmental bodies, NGOs, and individuals to unite with us in this mission. By investing in the rights, leadership, and well-being of girls, we are collectively investing in a brighter, more equitable future for all. Our vision aligns with the global commitment to achieve Goal 6 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for every girl in Nigeria.

WaterWide extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported our journey and mission. Together, let us celebrate International Day of the Girl by taking tangible actions to create a world where every girl’s rights are protected, her leadership is nurtured, and her well-being is secured.
